I was raised with “natural living” being the norm but the desire to incorporate more into my life really started when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and was required to take medication (I have found this to be very common among those of us who have to medications over a long period).
Moving from a chemical-based lifestyle to one more plant-based has been a slow and steady process.
It hasn’t been arduous by any means; it’s simply that I am particular in where I am going to invest my time and money. Essential oils are so versatile, it’s actually quite simple to integrate them.
I have compiled five of my most used essential oil recipes and “hacks.”
lemon essential oil for nausea
I used this “hack” all through my pregnancy and still use today since I get motion sickness too easily. Add 2 drops of water to a bottle of drinking water. If you get nauseous, open the bottle and breathe in the refreshing, sickness suppressing scent of citrus.
lavender essential oil and baking soda for carpet deodorizer
Take a resealable container (I use this one). For every 1 cup of baking soda, mix in 2 drops of Lavender essential oil. Sprinkle onto the carpeted areas of your home and after a couple of minutes, vacuum up.
lavender essential oil and epsom salt for a relaxing bath
One of my favorites. Fill a bathtub with water hot enough for your personal comfort, add two handfuls of Epsom salt and 3 drops of Lavender essential oil. So relaxing, it works wonderfully the end of the day bathing.
thieves and copaiba essential oil for allergies
1 part Thieves essential oil to 2 parts Copaiba into a cool mist oil diffuser. Thieves has amazing properties to help with allergy sufferers and Copaiba is pleasantly scented.
peppermint essential oil and witch hazel for ant deterring
Fill 3/4 of a 6oz glass spray bottle with distilled water. Then add 2 tablespoons witch hazel and 12 drops of peppermint oil. Shake well before each use! Spray in the areas around your home where ants have been getting in, e.g. doorways. Unlike several ant killers available, this doesn’t attract ants to the location (hence the deterrent description).
At the beginning of every month, I like to write about my memories of the previous month and this includes an essential oil recipe that I discovered that month (mentions are here, here and here). So if you enjoyed these, there will be more to come!
